The Messina Movement

OAXACA, MEXICO
NOV 14 - 19, 2025

Hola Sol is a sun-soaked reclamation of your soul, a chance to return to your essential self through nourishing movement, somatic practices, insightful exploration, warm ocean air, and rest. We gather in San Agustinillo nestled between jungle and sea, to slow down, soak up, and say hello to what matters most.

This is not your average yoga retreat—we welcome all genders and all levels of practice. Our aim is to make this retreat experience as accessible as we can—it’s a casual, intimate, and insightful week of guided practice, free-flowing afternoons, meaningful connection, and soul-stirring rituals designed to help you reclaim what you may have forgotten: that you are already whole, wise, and wonderfully alive.

Our Daily Focus

Each day is designed to gently guide you inward while also connecting you more deeply with the natural world. Explore themes that build on one another to support your return to what feels most essential.

Day 1: Arrive - Intention Setting
Day 2: Ground - Safe Support
Day 3: Flow - Be Like Water
Day 4: Ignite - Intentional Action
Day 5: Expand - Loving Connection
Day 6: Integrate - Spirit Embodied

The Venue

Monte Uzulu is more than a place to stay—it’s a conscious experience rooted in care for the earth, the local community, and each guest who visits. Perched above the coastline and nestled among centuries-old trees, this boutique hotel was built by architects At-te and designed by Taller LU’UM with deep respect for the surrounding jungle and sea. Every detail—from the earthen walls and local wood to the rainwater collection system and artisan-made interiors—reflects a commitment to harmony with nature while meeting the demands of modern hospitality. Each suite opens to a private terrace with sweeping views of the Pacific and the lush Oaxacan hillside.

The Location

San Agustinillo is a small fishing village on the Oaxacan coast, quietly nestled between the better-known beach towns of Mazunte and Zipolite. Its laid-back charm and slower rhythm make it a hidden gem.

With 345 days of sunshine a year, a salty breeze in the air, and waves that draw both surfers and sea turtles to shore, San Agustinillo invites you to relax into its natural flow.

The main road, lined with palapa-roofed cafés, local craft shops, and family-run restaurants, leads you past mangroves and out to three distinct bays. One offers waves for surfing, another a calm cove for floating, and all provide stunning sunset views and starlit nights.

Your Guide

Lisa Messina is the founder of The Messina Movement, a somatic practitioner, movement educator, and facilitator with decades of experience guiding people back to themselves through the body. Her work blends deep listening with playful exploration, drawing from a lifetime of dance training, years of study in somatics and yoga, and an extensive understanding of nervous system regulation.

Lisa brings a rare combination of warmth, presence, and precision to her teaching and creates spaces for people to feel safe enough to reconnect—with their bodies and their joy. Hola Sol is an expression of Lisa’s deepest offerings—it’s a return to your essential self, living authentically and remembering what it feels like to be fully and freely you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! It’s our mission to make this retreat just that—a restorative time for you and we know how special that time can be with a loved one.

If you’d like to bring a plus one, they will pay the shared room fee of the room you choose, minus $200/$226 incl. HST.

They will enjoy all the meals, our group cooking class and excursion, and will not attend the daily movement sessions with the group.

Please note, there are no extra beds so you will be sharing a bed.

  • The cost of the retreat is per person. In a shared room, you each pay the double rate as noted above.

If your plus one is not engaging in the programming, they will pay $200/$226 incl. HST less than the double rate listed of the room you choose.

  • Unfortunately not. The rooms all have either one queen or king bed (King Suite only)—there isn’t much space for additional furniture.

  • There are 10 rooms available for our guests and we will be the only group at Monte Uzulu from November 14-19.

Our 10 rooms can be single or double occupancy for a maximum of 20 participants, but we expect a group size of 12-16 people.

  • Monte Uzulu is offering a special discounted rate for additional nights after the retreat.

Here are the extended stay rates (including applicable Mexican taxes, HST does not apply):

    LOWER ROOMS: ~$223 CAD/night

    All extra nights include breakfast.

  • We recommend West Jet’s direct flight, Friday to Friday round trip to HUX. Depending on when we search, those flights are hovering around $550 CAD.
